Farscape live-ish blog: Season 3, Episodes 7-9
We're back! So it turns out (not sure when this happened) that Farscape is now available on the "Roku Channel" (and I own a Roku), so that's great--it's ad-supported, but otherwise free. Now that baseball season is over I'm going to try to dive back into this. At least until the World Cup comes around in a couple days ;) (although my time zone/work schedule is probably not super conducive for watching the World Cup, at least not live...)
Aeryn and Crais share a significant moment when he hands her the data chip and their fingers almost touch, camera lingers on that shot. Kind of like when Aeryn and John were doing the "taste-tests" on the "reproductive compatibility" planet??
Aeryn's mother: "you were born from love, not an order." Unfortunate implications. :/ I'm not sure why this skeeves me; in Harry Potter when Voldemort was conceived under a love potion a lot of fans were like "ugh this is weird" but for me I was like..."I feel as if this is more symbolic, it can't be as simple as 'conception in weird circumstances'='incapable of love'." So maybe I've just been influenced by those reactions? Or maybe the message was more clear on-screen in this one: "you're special in a good way because you're not like the other kids." And that makes me worried about how much agency Peacekeeper women have in general. Eh.
"I didn't know if that was real or if I'd dreamt it." But you knew that Talyn was your dad's name...?
Stark: "Noble Talyn, I stand ready to ease your passage into death." John: "No." Poor Stark only has like two modes and neither of them are helpful right now.
John (via hologram): "yeah, and I'm the Wizard of Oz."
John getting interrogated by some Bor Gullet-type monster, eesh. Between the chair of doom and the brain chip his poor head has been through enough already!
Saving the clone, awww! "Yeah it'd probably be better for both of us if I just let you die but I'm not gonna." That's just the kind of guy John is.
And then using the clone to defeat the lie detectors, hahaha yes I love it. This is the kind of continuity I am here for.
"Cross my heart, smack me dead, stick a lobster on my head." :D
"Yes you can, you must"--Crais to Talyn. Again, this relationship is so intriguing but we're only getting one side of it, I don't want to have to read between the lines for everything from Talyn's POV!
Sorry we're in a horror movie now? Shapeshifters? The princess(?) was a shapeshifter? What.
Stark and Rygel have to be roommates on Talyn. If anybody deserves the "my side, your side" shtick it's Rygel.
John has a "that's no moon!" moment played entirely straight.
"Okay we're inside the [space] whale, let's latch onto its ribs and resume bickering about our interpersonal life" hey, I know this Decembrists song.
This premise seems like an episode for the stuff I'm invested in--John/Aeryn plus Talyn&Crais, no Chiana being objectified or harassed, even Rygel is off doing his own thing in the escape pod. But again, it's almost but not quite hitting my id--like, the love triangle stuff doesn't interest me, neither does not getting to really hear from Talyn himself. So close and yet so far.
"Let's just sail all the way through and get pooped out." next time my IBS acts up (which is often) I'm going to imagine I have a moody baby Talyn inside me.
John: "you two...three are going to be one."
Crais: "There will be pain, it will pass." Aeryn: "He is beyond beautiful." Okay now this scene is hot, more like this please.
Stark: "You're loose." Rygel: "Not as loose as Chiana ayyyyyyyyyyyo."
John to Crais: "Weather changes. People don't."
John, on the subject of Crais: "He knows that if anything happens to me, his shot at domestic bliss will be cut off. Along with his balls."
"This is something denied to you." Because you [Talyn] are a Peacekeeper? Or because he's a spaceship? :/ not really here for the power-of-love aspect exactly.
John wants to look for the wormhole, the others don't. This would be a good situation to have a real "captain" or leader. Pilot is ultimately in control, but socially he mostly defers to the others. I feel like in previous seasons D'Argo played this role but maybe not?
Since the title is "Losing Time" I assume this weird xylophone/chime music is meant to represent clock chimes? I like it.
It's another "spot the impostor" test but no real social deduction.
Okay, now it's "ask them something only the real X would know." D'Argo says "my first time having sex I was seven." This gives better context for Jothee (who we think is eight years old?) but still doesn't really fit with the early clues to D'Argo's lifespan. Maybe Luxans just have a very short "childhood" period and become "full-grown" adults quickly? Best I can figure.
Jool points out that none of them know any personal information about her anyway, which is going to make this a challenge.
They discover Moya has a secret glittery starburst chamber with...silver CDs. Like, the tech is pretty, but also very '90s looking.
The alien in Chiana is like "well from my point of view, the alien in Pilot is evil." Okay, yeah, I feel like we've seen this one before too.
Scorpius just has to casually give himself shots. Braca (awkwardly): I'll see myself out. Scorpius: No it's fine, this is normal. Hashtag chronic illness representation?
"This plan is so bad that it has to be ours" --D'Argo. I think I've seen this referenced on memes :)
Chiana maybe has psychic powers now? The timeskips really didn't matter except as a "hey, it's aliens" clue? And Scorpius is still seeing John in dreams or vice versa? Okay. Weird one.
