Farscape live-ish blog: Season 4, episodes 4-6
Chiana: I haven't eaten for three days. Sikozu: Weak.
John: Is this gonna turn me into a newt? "Holy Grail" allusion, kind of weird to think about how long that's been a nerd touchstone. Like, that movie was ~28 years old when this episode came out. This episode is 20 years old!
Rygel stealing things gets them in trouble, this is a very S1 plot.
"Thermal energy is kinetic energy" John the nerd wanting to solve things with science :D
"Abbott and Costello, we've been over this" I like the implication that John has explained the entire "Who's On First" routine to D'Argo, in detail, multiple times.
And now Chiana is digging up vomit. Only on Farscape.
Did grandma just...not quite sex pollen the mooks, but make them breathe weird powder that makes them see her as a seductive dancer. Classy.
Rygel trapped in the amber unable to defecate, and I thought my IBS was bad. :(
"I'm never eating again"--Rygel, also my uncle D. after Thanksgiving dinner.
Yeah basically this episode felt kind of dumb, like, the only thing that makes it work is that the protagonists are stupidly loyal to their fellow main characters (Rygel, Noranti), just by virtue of the latter being...main characters rather than any kind of reciprocity. Noranti has this whole backstory about "actually the Tarkans are good guys" and what we get is one villain harassing some underling mooks, none of whom we know or care about or expect to show up again...? Meh.
Aeryn in her emo kid phase, I see.
How do Pilot and Moya feel about having Scorpius on board?
...also why is dressing like Scorpius good for heat delirium, doesn't wearing black make you more hot?
Harvey wants to kill Scorpius preemptively. They need to hang out and compare notes.
Sikozu hunts Leviathans, how do Pilot and Moya feel about that?
Aeryn punches grandma out rather than take her powder, relatable.
Sikozu to Scorpius: this is a weak Leviathan with an immature pilot, wink, wink...
"You have to kill me before the living death takes over." Real talk, when I commented on this trope in episode 2 of season 1 I did not expect it to be the kind of thing that got a continuity nod, but dang, am I glad to be wrong, and also, D:
Can Aeryn hear Harvey? Is John imagining both of them in his imaginary world? (TV Tropes recap seems to suggest yes.)
"The clone killed her" oof.
John giving Sikozu his gun because he doesn't trust himself if Harvey tries to seize control, nice.
This is the one time when cutting back and forth between the outside world and John's internal Harvey-world helps.
It worked!! (Now please last longer than the other John did after getting rid of his Harvey.)
"I have a spy on board the command carrier." "And she wonders why I have trouble trusting people" Hahahaha.
"It's a direct neural interface." "Oh, yeah, I hate those."
Pilot does not like Sikozu, good to know, and glad he gets to speak for himself.
"Please choose a spokesperson" yeah, like we probably should have done three seasons ago.
Okay, so while last episode was not my style, this one worked a whole lot better for me. I just like Aeryn. And Pilot. And melodramatic loyalty kink. Um, I guess if Aeryn's assassin friends were really worth dying for, I'd like to see a callback later, and I'm not sure if I should expect that? But still, big step up.
D'Argo makes another string instrument, cute. "My bowels make better music" --Rygel.
Callback to the flax!
Huge plant in space, where is Zhaan when you need her.
The intricacies of Lo'La (needing a DNA sample, etc.) are a nice evolution from the Prowler/Farscape module appearances earlier.
"I didn't find out till the command carrier" well, that explains how Noranti might know in a less crazy way than Noranti being weirdly psychic. How does it fit in with Crais and Talyn's timeline?
"John, I am going to tell you something I have never put into words before...I love shooting things" - D'Argo, :D
this miscommunication plotline is so dumb, obviously Chiana should not have interpreted "you can't tell John" as "you can tell anybody else and lie about your sources!"
"You defy the whole theory of natural selection" Sick burn from Sikozu to Noranti.
"There are so many other reasons for you to be hating yourself." D'Argo to Rygel when the latter blames himself for the plant attack since it happened during his captaincy rotation. Lol.
Is using up all the coolant rods putting Scorpius in danger? Can he make more?
"If this goes bad, please die first so my last moments can be joyous." Rygel and Scorpius, what a team.
The votes! This is what the episode was advertised as being about, I'm disappointed we didn't get more politicking. Pilot himself has a vote? That feels kind of weird, he should just be able to appoint someone by fiat.
Let's see if we can break down who voted where. One vote for Rygel--probably himself. One vote for Scorpius (who didn't vote)--probably Sikozu. One vote for the "divine eternal"--cut to Noranti. So the question is, out of {John, Aeryn, D'Argo, Chiana, Pilot} who was the one person who voted for Aeryn over D'Argo. I'm not sure Aeryn would vote for herself. Pilot or John?
