Farscape live-ish blog: Season 4, episodes 11-14

Aeryn learning to read English, aww.
Rygel: I can predict things before they happen. Pilot: You were deposed in a coup by your cousin. Ouch!
Sikozu to Scorpius: Stop trying to flirt with me, Crichton is always #1 in your priorities.
Einstein is interviewing John's acquaintances from back home...and dead people like Zhaan and Crais. How's that work? (I guess time travel.)
Chiana has an alternate universe "we're about to die so let's kiss" scene with John.
John kicking Einstein: "That worked?"
The creepy part-Scarran faces on the alternate Earth, eesh.
Girl Stark gets a "my love, your love!" line. Except...she's dating Aeryn while John is with Zhaan, what a twist.
"Arthur frelling Dent!" John is genre-savvy!
This was fun, but there was a little too much repetition from the chorus; I would have preferred a couple more scenes in the real Moya if they needed to fill time. (The intro was great with all the different personalities on display there.)

I'm hyped for the genre shift to time travel after they've built up this "things could go wrong" premise.
Why are there palm trees in Kansas?
Oh no, the Challenger :/
Okay they're actually in South Florida, makes more sense with the astronaut thing.
John steals milk from the milk delivery service, was that still a thing in the 80s?
Chiana learns to flip the bird, good times.
John confides a lot in young John...who assumes he's a spy.
Aeryn practicing her English by watching Sesame Street. Muppet bonus!
How can Chiana talk to young John? The crew in the house are like "only Aeryn knows enough English to communicate with the cops."
Rygel as Kermit, heh.
John and Aeryn can bond over their screwed-up mother issues.
Jack the scientist versus Leslie the tarot card reader, eurgh. I know it's probably not the point but the "Men Are Rational and Women Do Astrology Woo" is not good.
Is this a stable time loop? Shouldn't John have remembered the timing of his near-death experience?
More flipping the bird to the poor neighbor.
Rygel gets high on Halloween candy, nice. This is the kind of goofy trope for which it's worth building up Rygel as the glutton.
Scorpius/Braca is the new OTP, huh.
Not a fan of the Chiana/young John stable loop. (TVTropes says that "Karen Shaw" was mentioned before, but I hadn't caught that, maybe it could have been a little more foreshadowed.)
John starts dissolving like "Back to the Future" when young John overdoses.
So he has to tell his mom, in ghost-form, to go get his dad. And then tries to warn her about her own health, defying the risks to the timeline, but she's so worried about her kid that she runs off and ignores him. D:
There's a creepy trap monster on Moya now, noted.
Is this like Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban where everyone assumes it was Jack who rescued young John but it was actually old John?
And now they've time skipped all the way to the present but they're still on Earth? This feels like way too much to cram into one episode, heh.
FWIW, the Challenger launch was in January of 1986. (The cold weather is relevant because of the O-ring issue.)
I love time travel, and some of this was great (Sesame Street!), I just think it could have been more tightly plotted.

Jack never answers John's "bass or trout" question from last episode.
Moya has been hanging out on Earth for 42 days. So Earth has just been staring at the alien spaceship and freaking out that entire time? When did Sikozu make contact?
"It's called cop porn" - Noranti to Rygel, on a new food discovery.
Early in S1 John was recording the cassettes for Earth, now he's writing in a diary to narrate the culture shock now that he's back on Earth.
Is Caroline someone we know? I know Alex used to be in the picture...
Post-9/11 nationalism, yikes. (But I'll take something like this over Battlestar Galactica any day.)
John: "Hey, Aeryn, can you give my dad a ride to the moon?"
Jack (to Aeryn): "yeah you and John sure are cute, huh."
Noranti trying to sing Christmas carols.
DK who we've heard so much about, starting from episode 1, shows up for real only to be murdered by the monster :( (though if it's sensitive to Crichton's DNA, why didn't it go after Jack or Bobby earlier?)
This "John makes it back to Earth but he feels somber and can't fit in" is something predicted (well) by a lot of early fics.
Aeryn gets advice from John's ex :/ can't they talk about something else? (Her relationship with Olivia is a lot better and passes the Bechdel test, though!)
For extremely petty reasons I do not like it when Scorpius gets to be all heroic and self-sacrificing, namely, I want Crais and Talyn's deaths to mean something and it doesn't really count if the other villain just turns around and is like "actually I'm protecting the hero now, bye."
Braca's the spy and he's getting mind-controlled by Grayza...feels like there are some OPSEC risks there.
Kind of a downer ending but much more hopeful than it could have been, under the circumstances.

"What is sexy?" Poor word choice, Chiana.
This has El/Max from Stranger Things vibes.
Rescue a slave girl and she becomes your bi awakening, what a tropey plot.
Traltix, is that a callback? (Yes it is.)
Uhhh again, I don't want to get all preachy, but having your rescued slave girl be an evil spider monster is...maybe not a good look. :/
Sikozu's limbs regenerate, continuity!
Interesting characterization of John, getting to see him deliberately OOC in no-perseverance mode allows for an interesting perspective on the story. (And his relationship with Aeryn.)
"The bad guys always see me, cause my plans suck."
Getting back to real Earth for one episode and then pulling away was a bold choice, plotting wise. I feel like, between the dumb standalone episodes and the over-the-top emphasis on the memory drugs/pregnancy miscommunication plotline, the John/Aeryn stuff has regressed in a "oh no we're too far along, need to draw this out indefinitely" way. But the end scene with pretending to break up publicly so Scorpius will leave Aeryn alone, followed by private kissing, seems like it could be setting up a new secret relationship arc.
