Yay Thursday Next! The books are rather silly fun and sometimes quite clever, I personally think the series peaks around book 4 or 5. (I still haven't read book 7 -- if book 8 finally comes out I'll probably reread the series from the beginning.)
(Also I feel like the concept of the century-long Crimean war was funnier back when I read the books in the early 2000's, when war in Crimea sounded like a bit of historical trivia rather than something that was actually happening.)
