If anything, I think "A Drop of Corruption" glided over his reading difficulties almost too well; there are several places where Din just...reads stuff, instead of asking for help.

but like...what do you call the Empire?
I was really confused here as to whether RJB had a giant blind spot here, or whether I should take this as a Sign that something interesting was going to happen with respect to the Empire in later books. (And, like, if we're talking about kings and kingmaking, what about That End Spoiler?) I definitely get the impression that RJB really enjoys writing about the Empire -- which, no shade from me, I enjoy reading it! -- but then it seems really odd to be like "wow other people like writing about kingdoms, what's their problem??"
