All excellent points! I concur. The dissonance between "Let the past die, kill it if you have to" and the blatant nostalgia-tripping is jarring for me.
Luke saying "Darth Sidious" in TLJ always trips me up and breaks my suspension of disbelief, because it's such an obvious reminder for the audience, and doesn't make sense in-universe. We know who Darth Sidious was because we watched the prequels--and part of the suspense in those movies was knowing that Darth Sidious = Palpatine when nobody else did--but how does Luke know that? He's only ever heard Palpatine referred to as "the Emperor". Maybe there's a spin-off novel or comic that explains it, but if your movie depends on outside material in order to make sense, imho it's a poorly written movie. Why not just say "the Emperor" or "Palpatine" instead?
Yoda's line to Luke about page-turners is also weird, given that I don't think we ever see any paper books in the rest of the series, just holograms in the Jedi library? (I could be wrong about this.) It's just so... weird. Where do they come from and why are they important? I'm pretty sure they will never be mentioned in IX at all.
