I was travelling for Christmas so that happened. But now it's time to get to the end of this season and the dynamics I osmosed enough to dive in for.
We're still dealing with the Scarran from last time.
Chiana is having visions of the future. This is like the second or third time now. Shouldn't we be talking about this some more? What's the deal?
I really don't care about the cooks (and the robbery? That may or may not be related?) at a time like this. This is the endgame! We have a lot of characters we care about! What are John and Aeryn and Crais doing?
The robbers conclude that "someone blabbed" but no, Rygel just knows a scam when he sees it.
Okay, Talyn is breaking down for unknown reasons. Abrupt. Crais realizes that the 600 people who died on the medical ship also matter and this isn't just how it inconveniences the heroes personally, good.
Aeryn: "I've shared with him some of the best...and some of the worst times," aww. Is she thinking about one John being replaced by another as a parallel to the Talyn mindwipe?
This is the origin of "why so difficult"? I'd heard that as a meme phrase before but I did not realize it was coming from presumably one-off crazy restaurant robbers instead of the protagonists.
Rygel is stalling so D'Argo can get free. Except I don't think he'd hesitate to kill D'Argo in the interests of saving his own neck. Maybe it's more about "keep everyone calm so the situation doesn't blow up."
"On the contrary...you are very brave." Now this is the kind of one-sided conversation that I like.
"Some things you die for." "Yeah, I can't watch that again." "Okay, so just don't come with us." John being reasonable. But no, "we started this together, that's how we'll finish it." Aww.
We start with a war movie style clip of John and Harvey. Meh, don't really care. John: "I thought you wanted to die"--is this a callback to something?
Jool: "I don't know why we didn't cut ship when you said we could." Yeah, neither do we.
The red and black Peacekeeper aesthetic is back, nice, I liked that in the early episodes.
Crais basically demands by fiat that Talyn be fixed, after the negotiations are already settled.
D'Argo wants surgery. What? Why?
Aeryn reuniting with her former Peacekeeper friends and seeing how their paths have changed was a popular fic plot in some of the early fics I read.
Okay, D'Argo is having his fake officer insignia removed, maybe? And "blood runs clear," nice callback.
Scorpius actually seems pretty intent so far on honoring the deal and protecting the heroes from trouble.
Crais is flirting with?? this new character? now? ...okay, yeah, and she used to have feelings for him. "I hated you for two cycles" seems like a long time but in terms of show time, it's been two seasons since Crais defected, so yeah. But seriously. Why are we doing this now.
D'Argo also wants information on Macbon? Is that the evil brother-in-law? Should I know who this is? [Yes, it is, and it's spelled Macton.]
Scorpius gives his woobie backstory dump to this John, but we viewers have already seen it with the other John. So cut to Harvey.
Rygel gets a report on Hynerian politics, as promised, and callback to Orryn! Chiana is having more prophetic visions. Can we please sit down and talk about Chiana's superpowers for like five minutes straight instead of Crais' fake dating.
"They brought Moya in captured" ok well! That is definitely not the behavior of someone intending to honor a deal!
Never mind, Peacekeeper power struggle. Featuring a new boss and a Peacekeeper-aligned Luxan.
At this point it feels like everything is pointing towards John deciding he really does want to help Scorpius with the wormhole against the pro-Scarran faction. So what changes?
"Other John died to prevent the Scarrans from getting this." "Yeah, well, other John didn't have Scorpius' tragic backstory." Oof.
And now John stole a jetpack and is fighting in the weird scary electrical generator room. Cool, having a normal one on Farscape!
"Why are you bitching at me like we're married, Scorpy-Sue?" I'm sure fandom enjoyed that one.
And Scorpius stabs his own hand to make John drop the gun, nice use of the bracelets.
I watched through the credits because I'm doing the two-parter back to back and they have the 2002-era contact information for the Farscape fanclub, call MOYA-CRU. Awww.
They got through "previously on Farscape" in 1:20, which is not bad considering how much background they need to cram in.
Scorpius is basically lying down on top of John (who's bleeding from the lips). I bet sex in the bracelets is fun.
I do not care about Harvey. Meh.
But John is now scribbling all the new equations on his hands. How much of this could he remember if he starts over?
Crais is fine betraying all the crew for Talyn. Aww? Is the knowledge that John isn't going to help Scorpius really worth that much? Scorpius already suspected...
Okayyyy there's the farewell scene. The confession was a trap. "I kept Aeryn safe because I need her" to find the others? To give him a pep talk? Why do we not get the Crais/Aeryn scene right before? Does Crais know that Larell is bad news? Or that Talyn is awake enough to pull this off?
Ok Crais either knew Larell was a spy or he's just good at hiding his feelings.
Awww John went back to say goodbye to Pilot!
"Read the middle finger" not just flipping Scorpius the bird but that's where the equations are, haha.
They made a wormhole? Three seasons and John made the wormhole that works? In the middle of *gestures at this episode* everything and I hadn't managed to osmose that part? Hahahaha amazing.
And that's why you need Aeryn.
Okay. On the one hand. Not all the others have been captured, and the ones that were only got captured because of Crais. Also, Moya is not in imminent danger right now, so some of the stuff Crais is saying can come off as coercively manipulating Talyn, which eurrrrgh. On the other hand the way he calmly goes about "something radical, you and I, together." I just, THESE TWO.
The Roku stream comes with ads. Unfortunately, they don't line up the ads in the "right places" for commercial break fadeouts, you can tell, so they just had one in an awkward breakpoint, oops.
Pilot and Moya <3
The scientist alien chooses to have his mind wiped rather than risk getting the wormhole tech, oof.
Look, the reason I got into Farscape was because of anon meme discussion about Crais' arc as a whole, and especially Crais and Talyn in this episode. So I'd been thoroughly spoiled and osmosed a lot. But osmosis doesn't give you the context of "taking out this command carrier will destroy the wormhole research, he's using the hull as a repeater" or "we need to do it slowly enough so that most people have a chance to evacuate" or "it's fine if Scorpius himself isn't killed, it's advantageous actually because he's bracelet-linked to John." And yeah, I've said all along I wanted a little more interiority from Talyn (and Moya) and a little less forced melodrama with people like Larell (or Xhalax etc.) But. It says something about me that I heard "Villain redemption arc ends with him monologuing gloriously to actual villain before heroic sacrifice with his codependent problem child spaceship" and was like...where do I sign up. And for the rest, that's what fic is for. <3
John daydreaming about how Aeryn would fit in on Earth. "Where's she from? Bosnia?"
D'Argo re: his evil brother-in-law: "Revenge is a dish best served immediately." To be fair, it has been over eight cycles, probably more like eleven now.
Rygel eating the wedding cake in the Earth sequences :D
Chiana flirting with Jack is even weirder than when she slept with D'Argo and Jothee.
Moya is so done with the crazy Leviathan that she herself is the one inciting the crew to violence. How the turn tables!
"A credit to his species...both of them." Aww, Rygel.
I feel like Talyn would be proud that his death immediately leads to a crazy three-ship chase scene.
"I've never felt better"--Aeryn in the vision is quoting the other John's line.
"We don't say goodbyes," several callbacks.
And in the last couple minutes Harvey shows up again (why?) we see that the weird whispery shots were the crazy old lady whispering into John's ear to mess with his subconscious (again!), John learns that Aeryn is pregnant, and Moya (with Jool and crazy old lady) disappears into...another random wormhole that just popped out of nowhere? John's reaction is "oh, you have got to be kidding me" and I feel like he's right on the money.
I don't think I will make it through all the flashback-era fic (at least not on FFN), I want to keep going! But it's great to be "caught up" to here.
