I enjoyed this book as a kind of narrative play, although I ended up skimming a lot of the one-off chapters and just following the frame narrative--I like to burrow into a work and go deep, so constantly switching gears like that is not particularly restful for my brain.
The monologue about bookstores at the beginning was extremely funny, and I was amused by the twist at the end in spite of the ubiquitous male gaze.
I think I read at least one fic on AO3 before I read the original, actually...
