Superlatives game: Terra Nova
May. 14th, 2026 06:55 amScheduling worked out, I was able to accompany my parents on an incredible globe-trotting vacation, so that's been amazing. This almost perfectly overlapped with @threeweeksfordreamwidth ! So a couple days lated, copied from @maevedarcy, a fun meme.
The Characters: Superlatives
Rules: Choose one piece of media (book, tv show, movie, video game, whatever), then answer the questions.
I choose...
Terra Nova/The Worst Journey in the World, hopefully supplementing some of the lesser-known personalities with info from Sara Wheeler's biography of Cherry (which overlaps significantly with lots of kinkmeme prompts from back in the day, thank you well-read kinkmeme prompters!) and/or generic fandom osmosis from Tumblr.
The questions:
Most likely to be unemployed: Cherry's an aristocrat with inherited wealth, he doesn't actually need to get a real job.
Most likely to do drugs at work: Wilson says: going to Antarctica is fun and/or a vocation, public speaking in England is work.
Most likely to get caught breaking the law: Taff Evans
Most likely to do crime and escape unscathed: Depending on which secondary sources you rely on, probably Oates, and even if you don't, the Boer War sounds like it was a bad time.
Most likely to commit arson: These people have all been on a ship, I think they understand that arson is a terrible idea. OTOH, maybe Lashly when the motorcar's gasoline explodes: "well, I can't say I'm sorry, because I'm not."
Most likely to get scammed: Scott, unfortunately, is too desperate to make money fast that he doesn't think things through. Bowers is equally reckless and doesn't listen to his more pragmatic friends either, but when he sees the letter from an alleged Nigerian prince in exile, decides to put a regiment together to do a little regime change, and somehow becomes the only person to actually profit by responding to the scam.
Most likely to lose their cool in an emergency: None of them <3 maybe Dmitri by default, but I would take the worst guy from Terra Nova over the best from pretty much anywhere else in this category!
Most likely to have a threesome: Deferring on this one until I've read up more about the Discovery era love triangle shenanigans.
Most likely to sleep with their ex: No idea, in the interests of diversity I'm going to go with "Silas" Wright. "Is this a bad idea, probably. Am I gonna do it anyway, heck yeah."
Most likely to forget someone's name during sex: Gran says: it's not my fault you British people have weird names, why can't you be called something normal like Solveig or Ragnfrid.
Most likely to lie to their friends about something they did: This is too vague? Denying something that really happened that they're not proud of? Falsely claiming they've done something that they haven't? So-called white lies? IDK. (If we expand to "polar exploration RPF in general," otoh...)
Most likely to have a one-night stand: Griffith Taylor.
Most likely to get caught having sex in public: I'll go with Bowers just for "reckless/bad at privacy," but obviously he would have been too busy at work to sneak off to the meteorological hut during canon era ;)
Most likely to marry someone they just met: I'm not sure if there's a canonical answer to this one? Let's go with Campbell, "the only father on board" (at least for some parts of the sea trip).
Most likely to sleep with a friend's family member: Wholesome answer, a couple of people got married to someone else's sister, but I don't remember who. Maybe the Dedenhams?
Most likely to fake their own death: Why would any of these people...Maybe Teddy Evans decides if he dramatically coughs up blood, Lashly and Crean will leave him behind (it doesn't work).
Most likely to forget the name of a person they hooked up with: Campbell only remembers one hymn, I'm gonna say he has a selective memory ;)
Most likely to make a sex tape: If they don't have to actually be in it, just be making it, Ponting has the camera skills. Otherwise I think Taylor would probably be the star.
Most likely to join the Mile-High Club: Does it have to be someone who lived till the commerical age of air transit? Maybe Debenham?
Most likely to bring up astrology to explain literally everything: Lillie!
Most likely to have a crush on three people at the same time: Fanon answer is young and starstruck Cherry; Taylor votes for Gran because he's young and cute; I also think we should put in a word for Bowers and all his "special friends," everyone wants him in their party and he wants to be everywhere at once!
Most likely to win at trivia: Everyone thinks it's Wilson, but depending on the category, Wright, Pennell, even Cherry would be formidable.
Most likely to know zero memes: Pennell is much too busy at work to understand pop culture, and makes Atkinson explain everything to him.
Most likely to start a band just for the aesthetic: Teddy.
Most likely to flirt their way out of trouble: Most of them would just make more trouble by flirting; Atkinson probably most likely to succeed.
Most likely to end up in a news headline: Well...Scott.
Most likely to open a PowerPoint presentation about why they deserve the last slice of pizza: Canon-era, Ponting is the only one who has mastered the newfangled magic of the "PowerPoint slide." Post-canon, sadly, it's old Cherry.
(PS: new icon is from @reeby10, thank you so much!)
