So far, so good! Also I think the Amazon order is slightly different from the original airing order (maybe just for the first few episodes?), so I'm going to label these with their title.
"Do they make aphrodisiacs? Like the psychic Spanish fly?" Welp, today I learned. Was not expecting to find both a Simón Bolívar and a George Washington reference in this context.
There's weird modern art in the spar room, heh. Maybe that's just Moya's internal aesthetic?
D'Argo hasn't told anyone on the ship his real crimes? I thought he told Pa'u (whose name is probably actually Zhaan based on subtitles) that he killed a commanding officer?
There's a piece of a black hole in the shuttle, haha, nice technobabble.
The flashback within a flashback! Haha, that got me. (And explains the D'Argo "lie" too.) But John just deliberately smashes the mask again? Rude. :(
"Do you mock me?" "I mock all of us." Good summary of John's character so far.
I was kind of hoping the whole thing would turn out to be a long-term flashback and it would end with them being like "should we check out this weird ship?" John: "nope, don't do it, do not touch."
There's a lot of quick infodumping in the first couple minutes, "our current predicament is that there's a ship that..." They did this in the previous episode too. I guess a good way to have an episodic format where many episodes can kind of stand alone?
D'Argo tries to declare himself in charge. Wasn't he...already in charge?
Okay so it looks like Pa'u is her title (like "priestess,") Zhaan is her name.
I liked the contrast of Moya's crew accepting the gauntlet because they see it as a last resort, and Zhaan with Kyr trying to show him another way. And then the end was affecting: "My choice."/"No sermons." Felt realistic in terms of how different species and cultures would see the galaxy/bodily autonomy.
I'm worried about Rygel, I feel like he's slipping close to the edge of "why is he even here if nobody likes him, wouldn't they just get rid of him already."
"Look at the size of that thing!" - used unironically
John being way too chivalrous, as with Aeryn.
"I try to save a life a day...usually it's my own."
Our starburst counts are now Successful maneuvers: 2 (episode 3 they eventually get there although they can't at first), mentions but they're not able to pull it off: 2 (another one this episode).
"For a priest, you have a very flexible morality." Ka to Zhaan. I like the contrasts between what their different cultures value and what's hard for one versus another.
Rygel is just hallucinating his old enemy on Moya? I thought he went on the Zelbinion and saw a hologram of him.
"What's a doctorate?" "A couple of letters they add to the end of your name." :) Heehee.
"I like to kill clever opponents." Of course in Ka's culture that's probably flirting.
Given the dramatic kiss and the fact that Gilina was billed as a guest star I got the sense they were building up for her to sacrifice herself for Crichton in that scene with the two panels. But no, she lives! ...And has to leave so she can go back to her real life and not be a fugitive. "We probably won't meet again." Aww, but, that's what fic is for.
I was also kinda hoping that Rygel would get to save the day, maybe with a weapon he stole from his enemy. Oh well. They'll probably find a use for him.
John explaining the many nuances of "hey" to Aeryn, nice.
