primeidealI have a birthday coming up soon. I don't say that to solicit well-wishes, but to provide context for this rant/reflection.
Facebook prompted me to start a fundraiser for my birthday, of the sort I've seen other friends (and "friends") post: "for my birthday I'm raising funds for __, a cause that is important because ___." The display message was "we donate 100% of the proceeds to whatever charitable organization, and we will give them $2 for free, after the first donation." So I guess the question is, is $2 to a cause of my choice worth making my friends think I'm a leech? To me no.
