The "Baader–Meinhof Phenomenon" refers to when you just discover a thing and then you come across it in another context within (usually) 24 hours. I grew up reading the St. Paul Pioneer Press when the "Bulletin Board" column still ran in print daily, so while I am not old enough to remember the origin of the term, I was in the cohort that saw it before it was cool. 8-)
Anyway. Yesterday I was screwing around on Wikipedia, as one does, and I came across this photo of an unidentified woman in the Civil War. She is wearing a "kepi," a hat with a flat top and a visor, which is associated with the French military and the US Civil War.
Today's Atlantic crossword puzzle, one down: "French Foreign Legion topper," four letters. :)
