Crying Suns - follow-up

primeidealSo after this post about Crying Suns, I did make it through levels 3 and 4 (out of 6). Level 3 is apparently very hard so yay! And at the end of Chapter 4 the plot/storyline takes an interesting twist. So that was good. And then...my save file died and I was kind of bummed and didn't want to start over. I replaced my computer shortly after. So only now did I get it on Steam and marathonned it, a bit, catching up to where I left off and just now finishing.
Turns out I was not completely off-base with the guess of "the original guy you're a clone of is actually the one one who disabled the robots, what now?!" Not entirely correct, but not off-base, either.
There's a running theme of: you defeat the level boss, the player character says "you have been defeated! Surrender and I will treat you humanely, we are not tyrants and we will be merciful to our defeated foes!" And the enemy is just like "lol nope, guess you'll have to kill me." So I was hoping for a little more hope/important decisions during the storyline. Like, if you choose to show mercy to minor foes along the way, shouldn't that pan out and influence the ending? But all the ending possibilities are pretty bleak. So there may be fix-it fic.
Also, there's a running joke about "House Vicarelli are so useless, they can't even do anything right," and I was expecting that to set up something later. Like maybe they were the ones who turned the robots off! But no, they just get forgotten.
