Grumble grumble (fest musings)

With regards to Harry Potter, I'm still trying to figure out what fests are the right ones for me to participate in. It's extremely selfish of me, of course, but I like being in areas where people will comment on my work.
I tend to be cool with most canon ships, and I'm not a fan of a lot of non-canon ones. Especially in the case where people are like "hmm, X and Y are very much opposites in the books, they don't like each other at all--clearly there's just sexual tension there, let's get them in each other's pants!"
The books have been done for five years. If you wanted just to read about Harry and Ginny getting married, say for instance, you could do that--in the completed books. So I think a lot of the totally-canon ships are not being written about so much these days, at least in the spaces I'm finding. Whereas if you really wanted something implausible given the books, there are other people still into the "why didn't that happen? Oh well, there's always fic" mindset, which is why those are still around? So they have a lot of still active, vibrant, fests. Which is great! Just not what I'm into.
Okay, but what about a multi-ship fest? Or even better, multi-ship plus gen too! That sounds great; people who want to write big non-canon ships can do that, and if I want to write something closer to canon or gen, I can do that too! Except, what if nobody wants to read my stuff, it's just the same people signing up for different things and reading and commenting on each other's popular-ship fic, and ignoring mine? Again, this is just selfish paranoia on my part, but I get paranoid.
Or, maybe here's a cohort that's into more minor characters--cool! I love minor characters! Oh, you actually seem to think the tone of the original books was too juvenile so you're going to Deconstruct it because you are Literary and Pretentious and Enlightened like That. Um. I won't fit in here, nope. Moving right along...
Okay, here's someone who seems to love the same ships I do! Not entirely canon, but so much more plausible than the wildly-popular crazy ones! And they love gen, as well! This is great! Except, this group has really poor writing skills. Spelling, grammar, just isn't there. And they don't comment right away on what's been written for them in the past...I don't really want to waste my time here, despite our headcanons matching up so neatly. Darn.
Or, speaking of spelling and grammar, what if very poorly-written fics get more comments than mine because the characters are more interesting? Clearly this isn't the right crowd either...ah well.
I know it's very entitled on my part and I'm not asking for support, just trying to get this out of my head and into a ramble. Moving on. :)
